Popular Nigerian journalist and talk show host Dr. Reuben Abati has reacted to the new trend of Nigerians making attempts to break records and cement their names in the Guinness World Records book.
His reaction comes after the viral report that a Nigerian lady Joyce Ijeoma collapsed as she set out to achieve a 72-hour body massage on individuals.
According to Vanguard, Ijeoma collapsed while on the attempt at the venue in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
The masseur who had done a total of 50 hours collapsed during the wee hours of Tuesday
As of the time of filing this report, Ijeoma was yet to return to the venue and had stopped the live coverage.
The previous record was set in 2015 by Alastair Galpin in South Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Galpin currently holds the record for the longest full-body massage in 25 hours and 4 minutes.
Speaking on the What's Trending segment on the morning show on Wednesday, July 4, he said:
"What is the attraction with the Guinness World Records, is like every Nigerian now is looking at that since Hilda Baci went into the world record, the entire country has been turned into a kitchen."
He continued: "They are cooking from Lagos to Oyo-Ekiti, to Ibadan where you have Temitope Adebayo and Chef Dami and one lecturer at the Federal University of Ado-Ekiti who says he is doing acathon. What a country!"
"And the part that I find instructive is that someone wants to do massage."
