Allow your lawyers to do their job - Wike defends Gov Seyi, blows Dino Melaye again

Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has slammed Dino Melaye, the governorship candidate of Kogi State on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for some comments he made at the recent one-day retreat for elected officials of the party held in Bauchi over the weekend.

Dino Melaye, who was the spokesperson of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP in the just-ended presidential election had challenged Governor Makinde to demonstrate his loyalty and support for the main opposition party by physically attending a session of the petition of the party’s Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar ongoing at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja.

Melaye's statement was in response to comments made by Makinde who noted that the party was facing a big challenge that needed reconciliation.

“I just want to start appreciating the comment of Governor Seyi Makinde this morning, particularly when he said healing starts now and the way to start that healing is now,” Dino said.

He continued; “I will be glad if between now and next week and two weeks that we will be at the Tribunal to see Governor Seyi Makinde walk into the Tribunal venue and down to support the party.”

“Support our candidate and to demonstrate to Nigerians that the healing has started, to demonstrate to the world that PDP is united. That will show that the healing has truly started,” he stressed.

However, in his reaction, Wike who is the leader of the G5 Governors opined that Dino's comment was uncalled for and unnecessary while noting that Makinde's presence at the Presidential Election Petition Court won't affect the final outcome.

"Remember if you watched that program, when Seyi said the simple truth that we have problems and we failed to resolve those problems and that affected our election and that he is happy that the Governors are here - that shows we are willing."

"You know what somebody said after, Dino Melaye, he said that Gov Seyi should show that reconciliation by coming to the tribunal. What is Seyi going to the tribunal to do? When Seyi goes there then the judges will say Seyi has come and they will win."
