'I dey smell, I never see water baff' - Residents lament hike in fuel price due to subsidy removal

Residents of Bayelsa state are lamenting the hike in fuel prices following the removal of fuel subsidy.

On Monday, May 29, President Bola Tinubu during his inaugural speech to Nigerians announced the removal of fuel subsidy.

Although it is yet to be implemented, many fuel stations have increased the fuel prices. Fuel which was sold for N230 in some areas are currently being sold at N500, N600.

Speaking to residents in Bayelsa, a man lamented the hike cost of fuel saying he cannot afford the over N500 being quoted by the filling station.

Another man complained, that he has been unable to take his bath because those who sell the water also lament the high cost of fuel to power their generator that will be used to pump the water.

"I dey smell. I never see water baff. Borehole owners said they don't have enough money to buy fuel. And I don't have money to buy fuel for my keke."

The residents called on President Bola Tinubu to resolve in crisis which has began in his first days in office.
