Drama in court as senior lawyer interrupts proceedings

During the ongoing proceedings in court today, May 19, there was a brief confusion in court as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who is not a part of the Labour Party’s team of lawyers announced an appearance for the party.

The senior Advocate received criticisms from the panel of Justices as they denied him recognition although he claimed “He was given a brief to appear," as reported by Punch.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party on his part announced his appearance and on behalf of the party.

On Wednesday, May 17, the two factions of the Labour Party clashed in court as a result of the presence of the Lamidi Apapa-led leadership at the election petition tribunal in Abuja.

Both factions were battling over the national leadership of the party following the Federal High Court, Abuja suspending Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the LP.

It was reported that the court stopped Abure and four others from parading themselves as national officers of the party over the alleged forgery of documents including court documents.

Lamidi Apapa immediately took over the leadership position amid the crisis in the party.

However, after much fights, Julius Abure has been reinstated to the national chairman of the Labour Party.
