Bola Tinubu, President-elect Bola Tinubu, President-elect

Constitutional lawyer, Festus Ogun, has said Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect, can be sworn in as president on Monday, May 29, and later sacked by the Election Tribunal if find the evidences sustainable.

Taking to his Twitter page, Ogun cautioned those insisting that no inauguration should hold as a result of the pending election petition.

According to him such narrative is dangerous as it is not supported by law.

He Tweeted;

"A person so declared winner and subsequently sworn in can later be sacked by the tribunal if the Petitioners are able to sufficiently prove their case.

"Pushing the narrative that no inauguration must be made on May 29 is not only dangerous, it is not supported by law."

Sharing his thoughts on the law, Ogun noted that whoever the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declares as winner is certain to the sworn in until the court says otherwise.

He added that the inauguration does not stop the Tribunal’s verdict.

It has been announced that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal will begin the hearing on Monday, May 8.

This is as a result of the opposition which includes Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party who came 2nd and 3rd respectively at the 2023 presidential election held on February 25 citing irregularities in the polls.

They are contesting the outcome of the presidential election at the Tribunal.
