United handed Osimhen transfer boost

Victor Osimhen Victor Osimhen

The agent of Napoli star Victor Osimhen has denied reports claiming the Manchester United and Chelsea target is in talks with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Nigeria international has enjoyed a magnificent season with Napoli on the brink of ending their 33-year-old wait for a Scudetto and could be crowned champions should results go their way on Sunday.

The 24-year-old has hit 26 goals in 32 appearances this season, emerging as one of Europe’s most sought after strikers with United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich among those interested in signing him this summer.

Reports in France this week have claimed PSG’s football advisor has held talks with Osimhen’s representative with an agreement in principle said to be close.

However, a source close to the player has told Mundo Deportivo there is no truth to the rumours. ‘Everything is false news,’ they said. ‘It is too early to talk about the transfer market’.

Reports also suggest Osimhen’s preference is a move to the Premier League or Bayern, with the German champions seeking a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski who left the club to join Barcelona last summer.

United have made signing a new centre forward a priority this summer with Osimhen and Harry Kane thought to be the club’s priority options.

Kane will enter the final year of his contract at Tottenham this summer with United his only viable option should he wish to leave North London and remain in the Premier League to chase down Alan Shearer’s goal-scoring record.

United are wary of entering a war of attrition with Daniel Levy, however, with the Spurs chairman demanding in excess of £100m.

Osimhen will also break the bank with Napoli under no pressure to sell this summer, with reports in Italy suggesting it could take an offer of £130m to tempt them into doing business.

Speaking in March, the former Lille striker refused to rule out a move to Old Trafford.

When asked specifically about United’s interest, Osimhen told Sport1: "I don’t know what the future holds. I think I’m on the right track.

"At the end of the season, I will sit down with my agents and discuss everything. I will also be in talks with the club. I am incredibly grateful to Napoli. We will find a good solution together."
