The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called for an immediate investigation and prosecution of Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State for declaring Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed as the winner of the governorship election in the state midway through collation.

Recall that Hudu Ari, had on Sunday morning declared that Binani had won the election midway into the collation of results of the supplementary governorship election in the state.

His actions raised concerns leading to the electoral body declaring his announcement null and void.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, INEC disclosed that it held a meeting on Tuesday, April 18 to discuss matters from the elections. The statement said will "...write to the Inspector-General of Police for the immediate investigation and possible prosecution of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari."

The other agenda discussed are:

2. Request the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to draw the attention of the appointing authority to the unwholesome behaviour of the REC for further action.

3. The collation process shall resume at a time to be determined by the Returning Officer.
