Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been applauded on social media for ensuring compensation is paid to Mr. Clement Adedotun, a Uber driver, based on the judgment delivered by the Federal High Court against the state government.

Adedotun, a Uber driver, was assaulted on October 20, 2021, during a rally to mark the one-year anniversary of the #EndSARS protest in the state.

Sanwo-Olu ordered the 5 million compensation be given to the victim after reports emerged that the Lagos State government was on the verge of appealing the ruling.

Governor Sanwo-Olu gave this directive on his Twitter handle, expressing his commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights with empathy and authority, even as he noted that the state government had appealed the ruling.

His move has been hailed by social media users.

Yeye_Oluwatosin commented: "Very interesting to read. I’m happy Mr Governor came to this decision. Couldn’t have happened at a better time too. I have a strong believe you’ll be the best governor Lagos has ever produced if you continue the way you are. Thank you for being the man of the people, for the people, and by the people. Eko oni baje. Well done Mr Governor, make history this next 4 yrs"
