6 facts about Prof Oti, INEC's Returning Officer who declared LP's Otti Alex winner of Abia elections

Prof Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) is seen as one of the heroes of the just-ended governorship and state house of assembly elections.

This follows what many have described as her heroism in declaring Alex Otti, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party the winner of the governorship election in the state.

Nnannaya-Oti, the INEC Returning Officer declared Alex Otti the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Abia State - a result everyone was looking up to.

This was after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suspended the exercise in the state and declared the election in the state inconclusive.

48 hours after the resumption of the final collation of governorship election results in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, the results were announced.

Alex Otti scored 175,467, to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Okey Ahiwe and Enyinnaya Nwafor of the Young Peoples Party (YPP), his closes contestants.

Ahiwe polled 88,529 while Nwafor got 28,972. The LP candidate also won 10 of the 17 local government areas in the state, PDP got six while the YPP got one.

1) She was appointed the 8th Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).

2) She is a Professor of Soil Science and Environmental Conservation.

3) Prof. Oti has over 34yrs in academics, teaching research and administration in the Nigerian university system with international exposure.

4) She was born on November 15th, 1958 in Afikpo North Ebonyi State.

5) She is married to Dr Nnannaya Oti and blessed with 3 children.

6)She holds a Bachelor of Agriculture degree (B.Agric) in Soil Science from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN; (First Class Honours), Masters in Soil Science (Soil Biology and Biochemistry Option), UNN; a Postgraduate Diploma in Irrigation Engineering (Distinction) from Katholic University Leuven, Belgium and capped her academic laurels with a PhD in Soil and Environmental Conservation from FUTO, according to Bold Scholarship news.
