Fans have praised world 100m hurdles champion and record holder Tobi Amusan for starting the season on a winning note at the University of Auburn Meet in the United States.

The 25-year-old Nigerian hurdler began her 2023 season on a triumphant note after returning a time of 23.38secs to win the women’s 200m at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn.

The event held from March 17 to 18.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist beat University of Auburn students Chante Clinkscale, who returned at a time 23.56secs, and Ashantae Harvey with 24.46secs.

Amusan had a triumphant outing in 2022 and became the first Nigerian world champion in an athletics event when she won the 2022 World Championships 100m hurdles gold medal, setting the current world record of 12.12secs.

Some fans were impressed with her brilliant season opener and took to their Twitter accounts to rain accolades on the Nigerian athlete and wished her a better outing in 2023.

Aramide A. (Ijayeshina) Israel @Homodayor congratulated the Ogun State-born athlete for starting the year on a positive note.

“Congratulations to her as she has commenced this season on a good path.”

Debbie Lolo @mss_debbie tweeted, “Congratulations Tobi express. Greater things are in store for you.”

Uzoukwu Chinemerem @IAMLOUISMARIA99 expressed light in her feat and also wished her the best.

DeraBola @chamdoria said, “Tobi express! God’s speed is with you.

Dr. Music @Larry31797648 added, “Our Champ!!!! We’re proud.”

Atoyebi Moses @atoyebi_moses5 prayed for more strength for Amusan.

“More grace, the lord is your strength @TobiAmusan.”

NwaDaddy @emytelli tweeted, “Star Girl for life.”

Last Friday’s meet was Amusan’s first competitive appearance since she successfully defended her Diamond League 100m hurdle title in September 2022, with a meeting record of 12.29secs.

The world champion will now set her sights on retaining her titles and hopefully set a new record at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest in August and the Diamond League this year.
