Rukayat Shittu, a 26-year-old winner of the Owode Onire state constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly has broken a glass ceiling as far as the election is concerned.

The youngster who conteste the March 18 state house of assembly elections becomes the first the youngest candidate in Nigeria to contest and win a political office.

The contested on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

SaharaReporters reports that she polled 7,521 to defeat her rival in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 6,957 during Saturday’s election.

Little is known about her, however, one thing is certain, she will be part of lawmakers in the state that will be sworn in on May 29 for the next four years.

Below are some facts you didn't know about her

1) She is a former Senate President of the Congress of NOUN Students (CONS) at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and a journalist.

2) Rukayat attended Baptist Primary School LGEA in Ilorin, and Government Girls Day Secondary School.

3) She studied at Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies affiliated with Bayero University Kano.

4) She has a diploma certificate in Mass Communication and Islamic Studies.

5) She worked as the head of the news department for an online media outlet in Kwara, Just Event Online.
