Atiku or Tinubu: Makinde reveals who he told Oyo residents to vote for

Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State has responded to rumors that he supported the candidacy of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the presidential elections on February 25.

Makinde who won re-election for another four years responded to the rumors after he was officially declared the winner of the guber elections.

Recall Makinde is part of an alliance of governors of the party called G5 members who demanded the resignation of PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu for a southern replacement.

This comes after the May 2022 primaries produced Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the party. They argue that one zone can not produce the top two leading positions in the party i.e the National Chairmanship and Presidential candidate.

The G5 is made up of five PDP governors — Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Nyesom Wike (Rivers).

When asked if he played a role in the PDP's loss in the presidential elections in the state, he said: "In all fairness I told our people you must not do anything that will threaten the unity of this country. We should be pushing in a direction where we foster a united Nigeria, inclusive Nigeria.

"And you know the people of Oyo State can’t be led blindly. They are people that are quite sophisticated and they’ll take that decision."

"But that is behind us now Seun, what is before is that a president-elect has emerged and we must support, and work with him to better our country."
