The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) believes it can make amends to the technical errors and irregularities that marred the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly Elections as it prepares for the Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections.

No fewer than 837 candidates which include women will go to battle for 28 governorship seats while 10,240 standard bearers are jostling for 993 state assembly slots.

11 of those state governors are seeking re-election.

And about 10,240 others will battle for the 993 State Assembly seats In 1,021 constituencies across the country.

But our focus will be on the outcome of the Lagos gubernatorial elections. It’s such a critical election for many reasons.

According to the INEC, 24 women will contest the governorship polls in 18 states.

To ensure a free and fair process, INEC has been urged to transmit election results electronically to its result viewing portal in real-time from the polling units unlike what it did during the February 25 polls.
