Soldiers shoot thugs running away with ballot boxes around Wike's polling unit

Soldiers were called in to assist fight thugs who hijacked and ran away with ballot boxes in Rivers State.

Legit.ng reports that soldiers chased and shut at the thugs around Governor Nyesom Wike's polling unit in the Obio-Akpor local government area of the state.

There is tension in Rivers as the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress fight to replace incumbent governor Nyesom Wike.

The exercise is believed to have started late.

Meanwhile, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has accused the Nyesom Wike-led administration of not providing safety to voters who are attempting to cast their votes.

Amaechi after voting at his Ward 8, Unit 14, Ubima Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area alleged that the police are arresting persons who are not affiliated with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He described it as a "complete failure".

He said that even though the election was peaceful in his community there are reports of the arrest of candidates of the APC for the polls.
