Al Hilal head coach Ramón Díaz’s world has been turned upside down after he lost his wife in a tragic accident.

According to sources, one of Díaz’s sons, Michael Díaz, collided head-on with another vehicle on National Route 5 near the Buenos Aires town of 9 de Julio, resulting in the death of his wife, Bárbara Oliver, and the other driver.

The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, March 15th.

Ramón Díaz is a renowned Argentine coach who has managed several teams, including River Plate, Independiente, San Lorenzo, and the Paraguayan national team. He is currently the head coach of the Saudi Arabian team Al Hilal.

The news of his wife’s death has shocked the football world, and many have taken to social media to express their condolences and support for the coach and his family.

The veteran manager has been getting the best out of Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo since he was appointed Al Hilal head coach in February 2022.

Thanks largely to Ighalo’s goals, Ramón Díaz guided Al Hilal to win the Saudi Arabia League and reach the final of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Before this tragedy, Ramón Díaz had got Ighalo and Al Hilal flying and in the hunt for trophies on three fronts.

Only on Tuesday, Ighalo was among the goalscorers as Al Hilal reached the semifinals of the King’s Cup with a 3-1 win over Al Fateh.

Ighalo’s 11 league goals have been crucial to Al Hilal’s objective of retaining the title they won last season. The champions are fourth on the table, having played two fewer games than their major rivals.

It will also be recalled that Ighalo smashed four goals in the 7-0 demolition of Al Duhail in the semifinals of the AFC Champions League. The former Asian champions will square up against Japan’s Urawa Reds in the final next month.

The loss of a loved one is always a difficult and painful experience, and our hearts go out to Ramón Díaz and his family during this trying time.
