Atiku, PDP withdraw suit against INEC asking for access to electoral documents

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have withdrawn the application filed to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, seeking access to the electoral material of the February 25 presidential election.

Following the declaration of results on March 1, PDP and Atiku are challenging the outcome of the election declared in favour of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

On Wednesday, March 15, lawyers for Atiku Abubakar and the PDP told the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, that they were withdrawing from the suit.

Vanguard reported that during court proceedings, when the motion ex-parte, marked: CA/PEC/10M/2023, was called up for hearing on Wednesday, Atiku’s legal team led by Mr. Joe Kyari Gadzama, SAN, told the court that he filed a notice of discontinuance.

This move comes after Atiku’s legal team held a meeting with the leadership of INEC on Tuesday, March 14.

Justice Joseph Ikyegh-led three-member panel struck out the application after the withdrawal.
