Bola Tinubu’s setbacks as Governor of Lagos state

President-elect Bola Tinubu was a two time governor of Lagos state from 1999 to 2007 and Senator for Lagos West during the brief Third Republic.

He is widely perceived as the "godfather of Lagos state".

Tinubu didn’t do much in the area of housing. He didn’t build new housing units for Lagosians or provide affordable housing schemes.

Tinubu didn’t address the issue of environment management in Lagos adequately and the state was plagued with issues such as flooding and waste management during his tenure.

He also didn’t do much to address the transportation challenges in Lagos. The state was plagued by traffic congestion and public transportation was inadequate.

Tinubu’s administration was accused of corruption and financing and mismanagement. His political opponents accused him of diverting state funds for personal use.

The Lagos state godfather has consistently denied these allegations.

It was during his tenure several tribes were welcomed into Lagos with the hope and dream to become successful and noticed.

Despite all these setbacks, Bola Tinubu has since grown immensely in the political phase and contested in the All Progressives Congress primaries, Defeated other aspirants to become the party flagbearer.

He also contested the 2023 presidential elections and beat his contenders to become the winner and president-elect.
