'Igbo people respect our Oba or we kick you out' - Yorubas warn

Some Yoruba protesting against the Igbos Some Yoruba protesting against the Igbos

A section of Yoruba youths have embarked on a protest against the Igbos in Lagos state.

In their protest, the Yorubas claim Lagos is not a no man's land as it belongs to the Yoruba people.

This protest comes after Peter Obi who is the presidential candidate of the Labour Party and former Governor of Anambra state, won the election in Lagos state, beating Bola polls.

Expressing their disappointment at the outcome of the election results in Lagos state, some Yorubas staged a protest to reiterate their claim to the land.

Photos emerging from the protest has people holding placards with the following inscriptions.

"Igbo people respect out Oba, our culture or we kick you out."

"Lagos (EKO) is not a no man's land."

"Igbo stop attack on Yoruba culture."

"Yoruba own Lagos, create your own Lagos in Igboland, no dispute."

This has brought about fear and panic as some Igbos have raised concerns at the attack on their properties.

Nigerians have taken to social media to share their thoughts.

ifys.kitchen: This is sad and it breaks my heart to see this happen especially when I was starting to believe that the youths are united with a purpose. We could have made a difference because united we stand, divided we fall. This tribalism stuff is a very dangerous narrative to sell.

the_kiki2: Without Igbo’s Lagos will not be Lagos, just so y’all know!!!

opeyemifamakin: Life is all perspective. You can be smart enough to know that these HeDiots do not represent any Yoruba youth and this is purely a political move. Or, you can use it to feed your already tribalistic mindset. The person they are fighting against is GRV, A YORUBA MAN, and they simply want to make the Igbo’s scared and not come out to vote that day, simple. Dont play their silly games

_kelvindamascus: The name Lagos is not a Yoruba name . It’s a Portuguese name from the . Lagos was a land dominated by white foreigners during the slave trade erra. Definitely any Yoruba man in Lagos then must have been a slave from other Yoruba states. And that states the fact that Lagos is no man’s land. But the lazy Yoruba’s are claiming it’s there land because it’s close to other Yoruba states which made it easy for the Yoruba having majority of the population in Lagos . I rest my case go and argue with your ancestors.

rom_mercyofgod: Igbo people just dey thier own dey do business dey calculate money, boom! They are trending again. Labour Party is one big family o and not tribal, ethnic or religious group. Know this and know peace. Una go dey alright las las

ogesignature.beautylounge: Dis tribal war wa una dey instigate enh… igbos hv no problem with yoruba pple stop dis tribalism. Na some blogs won put katakata. D LP guy is a yoruba man so wats with all dis wahala. Lets thread carefully. Am igbo married to yoruba fyi

ella_.pretty: Lagos is a land of many languages not only Yoruba

georgina_chigozie_onuoha2: Pay him no heed. Do not be distracted. Don’t fall for their usual tactics of divide and conquer. The sufferings of the past 8 years did not care if you were Yoruba and Hausa. Demand for better governance that’s all. Hire people you can fire. Not men being controlled by God Fathers who do their bidding.
