US, UK, France congratulate Tinubu on election victory

The United States of America has congratulated Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress on his victory at the 2023 presidential election.

On Wednesday, March 1m the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared Bola Tinubu, winner of February 25 presidential elections.

The commission said Tinubu beats his opposition candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

The United States Department spokesman, Ned Price in a statement addressed the discontent among some Nigerians over the credibility of the results.

He urged all political parties to refrain from violence or inflammatory rhetoric.

His statement read;

"The United States congratulates the people of Nigeria, president-elect Tinubu and all the political leaders.”

“This competitive election represents a new period for Nigerian politics and democracy.”

“We understand that many Nigerians and some of the parties have expressed frustration about the manner in which the process was conducted,” he said.

“Nigerians are clearly within their rights to have such concerns and should have high expectations for their electoral process.”

“We call on all parties to refrain from violence or inflammatory rhetoric at this critical time,” Price added.

The United Kingdom

The British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, on Wednesday, March 1, took to his Twitter page to congratulate Tinubu on his election victory.

He tweeted;

“Congratulations to Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory in Nigeria, the UK-Nigeria relationship remains strong. I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries.”

France

President Emmanuel Macron of France on his part also congratulated president-elect on his victory at the polls.

Bola Tinubu revealed this during his questions and answer section with journalists after the presentation of his Certificate of Return.

According to Tinubu, he has received some congratulatory messages within and outside Nigeria, including that of the French President.

"Oh very many, many of that, in fact as far as Europe, the stock market reacted positively well, there was a goodwill message from Macron, the President of France,” Tinubu said.
