A section of Nigerians today staged a peaceful protest in Abuja, over the outcome of the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday, February 25.

The protesters lament the failure of the INEC to fulfil its promise of using the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System BVAS to upload the results collated at the polling units immediately after the election.

In a press conference held in November 2022, the chairman of the electoral commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has debunked reports that claim the commission plans not to upload the results in real time.

He described the report as fake news.

However, during the election, the BVAS were said to have malfunctioned at some polling units and results were collated manually. This has caused many to doubt the authenticity of the results being released by the commission.

The protesters are demanding the INEC chairman to fulfill his promise to Nigerians and conduct an exercise that is transparent and open.

They were heard chanting "INEC our votes must count".
