The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has boasted about the fact that the 2023 general elections is the first one since 2011 that has not been postponed.

Speaking to journalists at the National Collation Centre in Abuja on election day during an update on the electoral processes so far, the INEC boss stressed that this has come about because he has determined to do what is right.

"This is the first time since 2011 that a general elections has not been postponed in the spirit of the Chairman of the Electoral Commission to do what is right,” he said.

Prof Mahmood also said that the electoral processes have so far been without any major occurrences so far.

The INEC will give its next update on the election at 4:30 PM.

There are more than 93 million registered voters in Nigeria, with some 87.3 million being the only ones who have been reported to have successfully picked up their cards to be able to vote in the elections.
