'I pity Obi' - Knocks for Peter Obi after he schooled a journalist on the difference between election polls and projections

Peter Obi Peter Obi

Peter Obi's response to a question asked by a journalist at a recent press parley has gone viral.

The unidenfed journalist asked the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) what he thought about "Thisday Live Election poll".

Peter Obi in his response disagreed with the journalist that it was poll but rather informed him that it was just their projections.

He went further to explain the difference between an election poll and election projection.

Recall that the peojections by Thisday Live noted that there is an increasing likelihood that the first ballot at the February 25 presidential election may not produce a clear winner.

The projection also indicated there may be a run-off in the presidential bout before a clear winner is returned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It added that with the current standing of the candidates, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, can still boast 23 states, where he is likely to get 25 per cent, while his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, Bola Tinubu, is confident of 20 states, where he can also pull his weight.

The candidates of Labour Party, Peter Obi, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, follow as third and fourth in that order with fall far short in many states to satisfy the constitutional requirement of 25 per cent of votes cast in 24 states.

augustudoh said: You would literally have to poll people every 30 mins of their lives. People can change their minds on who they are voting based on a dream they had..

psalmxindyn wrote: Lol Baba say Projection is what you imagine. Aside that definition being wrong, if it to be in his favor na another story be that.
Projection: a forecast of a future situation based on present trends. How is projection an imagination. And all of una dey hail am. Dey Play dey go

aminushehuuba1: I pity Obi, how can this man be president for God sake where ? How ?

mastathye: Make this man go do VC for one university, all these perfection and pretense still won’t get him to aso rock.

iyoreojomo: I like Peter Obi but his information is wrong here. Projection of election is gathered from Real life result and data from exit poll. This data is always after election.

ayodejiawobamise: Projections are usually done based on polls or concrete facts (for instance, vote counting has started and 90% of ballots have been counted and candidate A is leading by 25%, then the media House can 'project' that candidate A will win or a poll was taken showing candidate A leading by over 30% against their closest rival, then we can say candidate A is most likely to win the election). What a Projection isn't, is 'imagination '. Journalists do not make projections based on imagination.

olubunmiv: I had an argument with an Igbo person and the next thing she said was if obi wins Dem go show us all. I can't cry..I was like what's going on here...e shock me oo..I changed my mind immediately, will vote for my Yoruba man since that's igbo people's plan for us...this is the 3,
