Yunusa Tanko, the spokesman for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council has disclosed that the Chairman of the Presidential Council of the party, Doyin Okupe resigned on personal grounds.

Tanko made this known in an interview with Daily Post on Tuesday, December 20.

According to him, Okupe believes that the interest of ‘Obidients’ across the world supersedes his.

He says, “Doyin Okupe resigned on his ground. He believes that the ‘Obedient movement’ supersedes every other interest. He has decided; the Labour Party’s executive would take the decision the way forward”.

The resignation of Okupe comes hours after the presidential council of the opposition All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council demanded the immediate resignation on Tuesday.

On Monday, the embattled Director General of the Obi-Datti campaign was convicted of breaching the Money Laundering Act by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The LP chieftain was subsequently sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

But the presiding judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, gave an option of N500,000 a fine on each of the 26 count charges, totalling N13m for which he was found guilty.

The former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan opted to pay a fine of N13 million to beat the 4:30 pm deadline.
