The United Kingdom (UK) government has disclosed that it has no interest in who will become the next president of Nigeria in the upcoming 2023 general elections.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, made this known on Wednesday, December 7, during a closed door meeting with the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja.

According to Mrs. Liang, the UK would support and work hand in hand with any candidates who emerge from the election.

“The UK doesn’t have a preferred candidate. We are committed to free and fair elections, but we will work with whoever the presidential candidate emerges from the election.

“The UK and Nigeria have a very strong partnership, and we want Nigeria to succeed. And democracy is part of it,” she said.

She added that the UK government recognizes Nigeria’s commitment to democracy and President Buhari’s commitment to free and secure elections.
