A Nigerian female pastor has slammed Lionel Messi fans for emulating the lifestyle of the PSG star.

The pastor posits that fans of the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner are following his spirit if they grow their beard just like him.

She made the disclosure in a video sermon that has surfaced on social media.

“Now you will see that there is a footballer called Messi who is leaving his beard everywhere and everybody are now keeping their beards also.

“The youths both Christians and Muslims are now copying Messi like mad men. You are not following the spirit of God, but Messi's own.”

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi and his Argentina national team, the Albiceleste are currently pitching camp in Abhu Dhabi ahead pre-World Cup friendly against UAE.

The South American champions are in Group C alongside Poland, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in what will be the former Barcelona star's last World Cup appearance.
