Champions Kano Pillars are on course for a successful title defence as they won their 19th game, defeating Owena Kings 30-14 on Sunday in the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League at the University of Lagos Sports Hall.

Pillars are yet to drop a point and Sunday’s win against Owena serves as a boost to their confidence with three games to the end of the competition.

The champions dominated the game, giving their opponents little room to operate.

Solomon Yola’s team have painted the competition red with goals and Sunday’s win will further send a warning to their opponents in the remaining games.

However, Owena have picked up only two wins and two draws and they need a change in fortune if they are to survive relegation to the first division.

Niger United also had the better of Lagos side, Tojemarine Academy, winning 23-17.

Tojemarine have recorded some amazing wins in their first season in the elite division, but found it hard to match Niger, who are hoping to better their standing at the end of the competition.

Also, D: Defenders defeated Benue Buffalos 28-26 in a closely fought encounter. The interesting tie saw both teams battling hard for the three points, but it was Defenders that stayed strong for the win.

In the women’s category, Bendel Dynamos were beaten 24-21 by Plateau Peacocks. The Benin side did well last season but are struggling for wins this term.

In the men’s category on Monday (today), Kada Stars take on Rima Strikers, Confluence Stars play Police Machine, Tojemarine Academy lock horns with Benue Buffalos, Owena Queens battle Lagos Seasiders, D: Defender confront Safety Shooters and Niger United engage Kano Pillars.

In the Women’s category, Seasiders Babes take on Plateau Peacock, Benue Queens play Imo Grasshoppers and Kwara Adorable Queens take on Kada Queens.
