Under-fire Bassey responds with first league goal for Ajax Amsterdam

Calvin Bassey was impressive as Ajax Amsterdam bounced back from 1-6 home defeat against Napoli with a win against FC Volendam.

The Nigerian international was among the goalscorers as Ajax trashed their hosts 2-4 to end a run of four game in all competition with a win.

It was a perfect response from the former Rangers defender who has been under heavy scrutiny since the defeat embarrassing Champions League defeat on Tuesday

Coach Alfred Schreuder deployed the defender to left back position and it was a move that work wonders.

The 22-year-old scored Ajax’ second of the game in the 39th minute, after Dusan Tadic’ 15th minute opener.

Substitute Brian Brobbey then made it 3-0 in the 64th minutes. The hosts then hit back in quick succession through Carel Eiting and Lequincio Zeefuik to make it 3-2.

The hosts piled the pressure as they continue to search for the equalizer, Ajax however killed off the game with stoppage time goal from Davy Klaassen.
