Flood Alert: Move to safe grounds - Lagos govt tells residents

The Lagos State Government has alerted residents of the state, particularly those living at the banks of Ogun River to relocate upland.

The state government also cautioned property owners and developers against embarking on any form of development in the state without following the processes and procedures provided by the government on setting up habitable structures.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, who issued the red alert, advised residents to be vigilant.

According to Bello, the situation might become worse by the release of water from Oyan Dam.

Affected areas may include: Ketu, Alapere, Agric, Owode Onirin, Ajegunle, Alagbole, Kara, Isheri Olowora, Araromi Otun Orisha community, Agiliti, Maidan, Mile 12, Odo Ogun, Owode Elede, Agboyi 1, Agboyi II, Agboyi III.

“The state government is also working in collaboration with the Ogun Oshun River Basin Development Authority to ensure that water releases from the dam have a minimal negative impact on the residents,” he said.
