World champion Tobi Amusan has received a cash gift of N5m and a house as a reward from the Ogun State Government for her remarkable achievements in athletics this year.

The 25-year-old won a gold medal in the women's 100 metres hurdles race at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, the United States last July.

By so doing, she set a new record of 12.12 seconds beating the previous record of 12.20 seconds set by America's Kendra Harrison.

Amusan continued from where she left off in Oregon by replicating a similar feat the following month winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the United Kingdom.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday, October 4 presented the award to Amusan while commending the world champion who hails from Ijebu, Ode.

“We are going to be presenting you with one of those homes in Ijebu-Ode. We are rest assured that you will come back home and live in Ijebu Ode,” the governor said.

“We will be giving you a small token. Now you are a big girl, we are only a state government. No matter who you are, you can’t be bigger than your state. It’s not the quantum of what we are giving you but the thoughts that come with it. We are donating to you the sum of N5 million today.”

Tobi Amusan is the first Nigerian to become an African Champion, World Athletics Champion, and Commonwealth Champion.
