Amusan breaks silence on Michael Johnson's derogatory remarks after her world record at WAC

World champion Tobi Amusan has finally broken her silence on Michael Johnson's derogatory remarks on his record-breaking feat at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States.

The 25-year-old won a gold medal in the women's 100 metres hurdle event with a record time of 12.12 seconds to beat Kendra Harrison's 2016 record of 12.20 seconds.

America's sprint legend, Michael Johnson discounted Amusan's record stating that the record was aided by certain factors which may need to be adjusted.

The comment by the track legend was greeted with a myriad of backlash from Nigerians the world over.

Speaking at a recent homecoming event organised by her management outfit, Plug Sports, the Commonwealth Games champion disclosed that she doesn't dwell on negativity and was unaffected by the comments from the BBC pundit.


“Honestly, I keep doing my thing because, after the World Championship, I have other competitions to attend, Amusan noted.

“I don’t dwell on negativity, so I look at the brighter side of the sport. Every time I step on the track, the goal is to win.

“At least the few Nigerians that appreciate what we do give us a follow and those that love other things just come on your page and scroll by. But I am still grateful for the little support system I’ve got.”

Meanwhile, the World Athletics ratified Tobi Amusan's world record (12.12s) last month.
