Nigeria international, Joe Aribo, scored for Southampton in their 2-1 loss at home to Everton at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, Aribo broke the deadlock for Saints in the 49th minute rifling a shot into the far corner from inside the box to put his side ahead.

Aribo’s goal was his second for Southampton, having scored in a 2-2 home draw with Leeds in August.

However, Alex Iwobi’s side responded almost immediately as they grabbed the equaliser in the 52nd minute when Conor Coady – after connecting to a cross from Amadou Onana – slammed the ball home from close range.

The Toffees went ahead two minutes later with McNeil’s thumping near-post finish off an assit from Iwobi. It was his third of the campaign and 23rd in the Premier League.

Victory extended Everton’s unbeaten run to six games, with a second successive win lifting Frank Lampard’s side to 11th in the table, while Saints slip to 15th after a fourth defeat in five games.

Following the loss, Aribo and his teammates face a tough task in their next game when they visit Manchester City on October 8 while Everton will be banking on Iwobi to pile more misery on Tottenham Hotspur who lost 3-1 to north London rivals Arsenal on Saturday in their next league game.

Frank Onyeka made a cameo appearance for Brentford who drew goalless away at Bournemouth. The Nigerian midfielder replaced Baptiste with six minutes left to play.

In the English Championship, Leon Balogun played the entire duration of Queens Park Rangers’ 2-1 win over Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

Former QPR forward Nahki Wells got in front of Balogun to half the deficit in the 61st minute after goals from Stefan Johansen and Tyler Roberts gave the R’s 2-0 lead. The win sees QPR move to fifth in the English Championship league table with 18 points, six points behind leaders Sheffield United.

The game was Balogun’s fourth straight game since joining QPR from Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers on a free this summer.

Chuba Akpom also came on for Duncan Watmore at half time as Middlesbrough lost by a lone goal to Coventry City. The win was Coventry’s first of the campaign.
In Belgium, Paul Onuachu scored his first league goal of the season for Genk who came from a goal down to beat Oostende 2-1 after seven games.

The Nigerian striker drew his side level in the 25th minute after Genk had trailed Oostende for 21 minutes following a third-minute strike from Fraser Hornby.

Daniel Munoz sealed the win for Genk with two minutes left to play. The win extends Genk unbeaten streak to nine games so far this season – eight wins and a draw.

They currently occupy second place with 25 points, two points behind leaders Royal Antwerp.

Last season, Onuachu scored 21 goals in 35 league fixtures for his side.
