Nigeria's federal government reveals conditions for lifting Twitter ban

Nigeria suspends Twitter operations indefinitely Nigeria suspends Twitter operations indefinitely

The federal government has stated that the prohibition on the usage of the popular social media network Twitter in Nigeria would not be lifted on a certain date.

The only requirement for lifting the indefinite prohibition on Twitter in Nigeria, according to Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is that the platform be used "responsibly."

The minister, on the other hand, denied that President Muhammadu Buhari's government believes Twitter is a threat to the country. The suspension of the microblogging platform, according to Onyeama, was a precautionary action to prevent the platform from being used to destabilize the country.

“We are not claiming that Twitter is a threat to the country or anything like that,” he stated.

‘The reason we took this action is to prevent them from being used as platforms for destabilization, facilitation, or encouragement of criminality,' Onyeama noted.

Meanwhile, Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari's government over the country's Twitter ban.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member defied the government's directive, claiming that he will continue to use the social networking platform that has been suspended.
