The Niger state police command has denied claims that the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer CEO of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Godswill Obioma's murder was carried out by assassins.

The professor was alleged to have been strangled in his Minna home by some suspected assassins.

However, Command's spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun stated that the report is false and that the professor died after a short illness.

“This story is totally false, untrue and a pure element of fake news circulating in some section of the social media and national dailies that NECO Registrar, Prof. Godswill Obioma, was murdered by unknown gunmen in Minna.

Members of the public are hereby urged to disregard the fake news while news reporters are advised to always verify their report before publication to avoid creating unnecessary panic and fear in public domain,” the statement read
