3 reasons Senators are reportedly plotting to impeach Senate President Ahmed Lawan

Recently, reports have it that some senators are plotting to impeach the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan.

In a publication cited on This Day, senators representing the North West region are instigating a possible leadership change in the Senate.

These senators are, however, trying to convince their colleagues from the North Central to back the plot.

According to the report, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in southern caucus, the Senate are in support of the move to sack Lawan.

This Day noted that sources in the Senate have listed three reasons for the alleged impeachment.

1. Senators are accusing Lawan of refusing to release funds for their work. His sluggish approval process has been a challenge.

2. Lawan’s unbridled support for President Muhammadu Buhari is causing embarrassment for senators.

3. The other ground for the plot against the Senate president was his criticism of the southern governors’ demand for restructuring.

The report added that should the impeachment be successful, the next Senate president may likely come from the North-west zone, which has the highest number of senators.
