President Muhammadu Buhari met with the President of Chad’s Transitional Military Council, General Mahamat Idriss Deby, behind closed doors on Friday, May 14.

Punch reports that Deby is on a day visit to Nigeria after he had initially visited Niger on May 11.

The meeting was held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja around 11:11 am.

Deby was appointed leader of Chad after the death of his father at the hands of terrorist attackers, April 19, 2021.

According to NAN, Deby’s visit to Nigeria is aimed at formally introducing himself to Buhari, who is considered to be one of the most influential leaders in the West African sub-region and Africa at large.

Other matters expected to be discussed at the meeting are the menace of terrorism and arms proliferation threatening the peace and security of the sub-region.
