The Presidency has announced that President Muhammadu Buhari will continue to govern while he's in London for his two weeks medical check-up.

Yesterday, March 30, 2021, President Buhari left the country for the United Kingdom for a rolutine medical check-up and is expected to be back in April.

As many wondered why the president did not transmit power to Vice President Osinbajo, Buhari's Spokesperson, Garba Shehu noted that it was not necessary as the Buhari was not sick and therefore he would continue to exercise his powers.

"He will continue from wherever he is. The requirement of the law is that if the President is going to be absent from the country for 21 days and more, then a transmission (of power to the VP) is warranted. In this particular instance, it is not warranted," Shehu said.

It is widely known that the president flies to the UK often for medical check-up, however, it was stated that Buhari has travelled to the UK for treatments for the past 30-years.

Although the nature of the ailment is undisclosed, Nigerians have questioned why in the past he stayed in London for a long period of time.

"I think the president is wise and quite correct in his decision that he retains consistently the set of doctors who have ensured good health for himself," he said.

When quizzed as to why Buhari has failed to fix the health sector better enough to seek treatment in the country rather than travel to the UK, Shehu responded that the Buhari's administration is trying its best but the resources are limited.

He added that resources in the country have been shared across the various sectors making it difficult to see the progress made since he assumed power.
