Ex-Delta Deputy Governor, Amos Utuama's loses wife

The immediate past deputy governor of Delta State, Amos Utuama (SAN) has lost his wife.

Mrs. Tuwere Nelly Utuama reportedly died last week, however, the family decided against making it public knowledge as Mr. Utuama currently faces some health challenges.

Utuama, a two-term deputy governor, served under the administration of the immediate past governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan between 2007 and 2015, Sahara Reporters said.

Mrs. Utuama was aged 65.

A political associate to the former deputy governor told Sahara Reporters exclusively that "The news of the wife of the former deputy governor had broken out since last week but was kept secret from her husband who was already at the airport in Lagos to be flown abroad for an illness suspected to be partial stroke; it was done so as not to worsen his health condition.”

"The news was also kept from the public and the media so that it would not get to her husband as well because of his current health condition," the source added.

Meanwhile, the death of the wife of the former deputy governor has been confirmed in a statement signed by Ebikeme Clark, son of a former Minister of Information, Edwin Clark and Special Adviser to Delta state governor, according to Sahara Reporters.

“The families of His Excellency, Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN, of Otu-Jeremi, Pa Ojigho of Otokutu, Chief Ikporoko Oro of Ejekota and Chief E. K. Clark of Kiagbodo, all in Delta State, regret to announce the passing on of their daughter, sister, cousin, mother and grandmother, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Tuwere Nelly Utuama, after a brief illness, at the age of 65 years.

“The news of the passing on was made known by her children, Dr. Ovie Andrew Utuama and Barr. Mrs. Oghenefejiro Barbara Smooth. Burial arrangements will be announced later by the family," the statement said.
