Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has won the hearts of his statesmen and observers for his role in making Oyo a trailblazer in the SouthWest.

The 53-year-old who lost three election bids in 2007, 2011, and 2015 in a recent engagement revealed he no political godfather.

He made the comment at the pan-Yoruba Congress at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

According to him: “Let me tell you here today. I don’t have a political father. It was God who made me governor and not a human being. I fear only God and not any human. No matter how powerful a man is, I cannot fear him.

“I contested election in 2007, 2011 and 2015 but failed and when it is time for God to make me a governor, he made me.

“If the people of the state decided that they don’t want me again, I will only take my bag and leave because I don’t have a pin in the office.”

For those who are not familiar with politics in Nigeria, an upcoming politician must have a political father or godfather who creates a path for him in his political journey.

The godfathers in turn for their guidance demand favors of various forms from their political sons. The political sons also hid the advice of godfathers.

In Lagos, it is rumored that Bola Tinubu, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) decides who rules Lagos.

Babatunde Raji Fashola, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu have all benefitted from godfatherism.
