According to a statement by the association, the resolution, adopted by a vote of 57 to 0 of the members present, led to the impeachment of the chairman of the body’s executive committee, Ayodele Thomas.

The Congress also suspended indefinitely the financial secretary, Obidike Jideofor, the welfare secretary, Okpe Emmanuel and Mr Osasere Malachy, the assistant secretary, for failure to attend the virtual meeting.

The statement added, “In order to avoid any vacuum in the governance structure of FIAN, the Congress resolved to empower the Board Of Trustees, BOT, to dissolve the current executive council upon the expiration of their tenure on 5 April 2021. “The BOT, alongside the five-man appointment committee selected by the Congress, has been charged with the task of appointing for the association an interim executive council to steer the affairs of FIAN for six months and a maximum of one year.”
