Chukwueze wins MOTM in first start for Villarreal after injury

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze played 90 minutes for Villarreal but his side fell 2-0 against Atletico Madrid in their LaLiga encounter on Sunday.

Chukwueze made his first Liga start for the Yellow submarines since his recovery from an injury that kept him out of action for three weeks.

Despite Villarreal’s defeat at the Estadio De La Ceramica, the 21-year-old was named the best player on the pitch.

Chukwueze completed more successful dribbles (4) and created more chances (4) than any other player in the game.

Own goal from Spanish defender Alfonso Pedraza put Atletico ahead in the 25th minute, before Portuguese youngster Joao Felix scored the second in the 69th minute.

Following the defeat, Villarreal dropped to 7th on the log with 37 points.

Unai Emery’s men will now hope to return to winning ways when they take on Valencia, March 5, at the Mestalla.
