Kagara abductions: FG has abandoned us - Governor Bello cries out

Abubakar Sani Bello, the governor of Niger state, has accused the federal government of not doing enough to secure the release of 42 persons abducted at Government Science College, Kagara.

Premium Times reports that the governor said he has received “little or no support” from the federal government towards the rescue of the abducted victims.

Legit.ng gathered that the bandits abducted the persons, including 27 students, three workers and 12 members of their families in the school located in Rafi local government area of the state.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Mary Noel-Berje, he made the remarks on Thursday, February 25, during a visit by a former Abia governor, Orji Kalu, in Minna.

Kalu, who is the Senate chief whip, was in Niger to sympathise with the governor over the incident, adding that the federal government should set up a joint security committee to expedite action for the release of the abducted persons.

The senator said: “This will fast track getting back these innocent Boys and girls as quickly as possible. We sympathize with you and we share in your grieve at the moment.

"We know what you are going through and this why I am calling on the federal government to try to set up a joint security committee in your state to be able to have the representatives of all the forces stationed in the state to complement the existing command in the state."

Bello also supported the call from Kalu, pointing out that at the moment, he has little or no support from the government at the centre but reiterated the state government’s commitments to securing the release of the abductees.

The statement, according to the report, did not elaborate on the area of support the federal government was failing to offer.

He said: “We will use whatever means and resources available to make sure the children return home safely. We don’t have exact day and when these children will be released but I am sure that it will happen very soon.”
