Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi dismissed repetitive calls for him to respond to the ongoing clashes between herders and farmers in the South West.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Monday, February 8, 2021, the Minister avoided responding to the questions regarding the killings, stressing the questions do not concern the recently held cabinet meeting.

As the anchor quizzed, he noted that his mandate to Nigerians was in the area of transportation.

“What’s the position of a cow in [a] cabinet meeting?" he quizzed.

"How does that affect transportation? You have to ask 200 million Nigerians their position before you get to me. The Nigerian people and the President of Nigeria gave me a responsibility to superintend over the transportation in Nigeria. If you ask me about that I will respond to you,” he added.

The Southern part of the country was hit by a crisis at the turn of the year after some unidentified herdsmen were alleged to have carried out several acts of crime including harassing, raping, and killing indigenes.

The most famous was the killing of more than 10 people and kidnap of 25 farmers in Ibarapa land in Oyo State.

Several individuals have spoken on the issue with many calling for the government to intervene in the matter.
