Governor Bala Mohammed Governor Bala Mohammed

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi on Thursday, February 4, revealed that he came to the verge of losing his office as a minister of the FCT due to a piece of land he allocated to Baze University in Abuja.

Mohammed told Yusuf Ahmed, the founder and members of the university management, that as a minister under the then president, Goodluck Jonathan, a woman was seriously interested in the same piece of land given to the institution, Daily Trust reports.

The governor disclosed that the scandal surrounding the issue at the time almost culminated in his sack, adding that he kept all this as a top secret all along.

His words: “You all know my relationship with the Baze very well, the struggle we had. One lady even wanted to take your land. I almost lost my job because of Baze university, you didn’t know that portion of the story, but I’m saying it today.

“There is nothing I cannot do to free resources for the betterment of society and that is what I did for you. I believe it was the best thing to do. The Bauchi governor said through his office he took back hectares of land persons who intended to use them for selfish and evil purposes."

He said his decision to give the piece of land to the university was influenced by the belief that it will be used for the benefit of citizens.

Mohammed stated: “I did it because I was freeing the land from speculators and those that would use it for other obnoxious uses. I congratulate you and I’m proud to be associated with you in this very noble endeavour.”
