A member of the Oodua Peoples Congress in Ondo State, Adejuyigbe Daniel, has been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Iju community in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The deceased was said to be one of the youths of the town who were searching for a missing farmer, Solomon Akinmeji, before he was killed in the forest on Sunday.

Akinmeji was reportedly abducted by the herdsmen on Saturday at Okeji farm settlement in the town.

The youth leader in the town, Mr Ogundeji Ayodeji, said Akinmeji was allegedly abducted in his farm by the herdsmen while other men with him escaped with bruises.

According to him, a search party was organised by youths and some members of the OPC in the town on Sunday.

He said the search for the missing farmer continued on Tuesday morning.

“Daniel move away from his group and he abducted and shot dead by the herders, “ the youths leader said.

He stated further that Daniel’s lifeless  body was found at a camp of the herders with his legs and hands tied.

Ayodeji said  Akinmeji was still at the kidnapper’s den.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tee Leo Ikoro,  said investigation had commenced into Daniel’s murder, while police were searching  for the farmer.

Herdsmen shot two villagers in Plateau, alleges youth leader

Meanwhile, a 39-year old farmer, Raphael Bawa, has been shot dead by suspected Fulani herders in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

It was learnt that the gunmen also shot another villager Mabo Agah, who died on Wednesday in a hospital he was rushed to.

The National President of the Irigwe Youths Movement, Ezekiel Bini, said, “Bawa went to a neighbouring village on Tuesday and on his way back, some people shot and killed him along Dundu -Maiyanga road in the locality.

“After the attack, the Fulani militia regrouped and advanced to a nearby village to attack them again. When our people got wind of the situation, they mobilised to push back the assailants and in the process, the Fulani militia shot one of our youths whose name is Mabo Agah.  Agah died this morning (Wednesday).”

Spokesman for the State Police Command,Ubah Ogabah  said the command was aware of the killing of the two persons in Bassa by “unknown gunmen.”

“We are aware of the situation in Bassa where unknown gunmen killed two persons. Investigation to unravel those responsible for the killings has started,” Ogabah said.
