Imo State Government has hired 1,000 professionals in the primary and secondary schools.

Commissioner for Education, Professor Bernard Ikegwuoha noted that the teachers would be given stipends with renewable terms.

On Wednesday, he explained that some 400 workers would be redeployed to the state’s 303 secondaries and 1,800 primary schools.

Mr Ikegwuoha also hinted that 20 principals have been demoted and others suspended.

Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration is said to have begun implementing the 2010 White Paper issued by the Ikedi Ohakim government on downsizing and rightsizing.

According to Mr Ikegwuoha, the exercise had exposed employees with fabricated records who would face the law.

He advised persons with payroll issues to visit the newly created platform for information regarding payment of salaries.
Ikegwuoha advised that with regards to the misunderstanding between the state government and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the unionists should endeavour to dialogue with him before embarking on strike on January 25.
