The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to fix some roads in border communities in Ogun State.

At the plenary on Thursday, the House specifically urged the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to make provisions in the 2021 budget estimates for the reconstruction of the Ihunbo–Itaegbe–Oniro–Ipokia road.

The House also mandated its Committees on Works and Appropriations to ensure implementation of the resolution.

The lawmaker representing Egbado-South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, Kola Lawal, had moved motion titled, ‘Need for Construction of Ihunbo–Itaegbe-Oniro–Ipokia Road,’ which was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers.

Moving the motion, Lawal said, “The House is worried that the deplorable state of the road has paralysed socio-economic activities of the area as some portions of the road have completely been cut off, thereby making it impossible for vehicles to ply.”

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday said the 14.7km Ijebu-Ode-Epe Expressway would be completed by May 2021.

The governor said this at the official unveiling of the new ultra-modern automated PET line of the Nigerian Breweries Plc in Ijebu Ode.

He said the project had been delayed by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, necessitating a shift in the completion date from February to May next year.

The governor said, “Ogun state shares a border with other states in the region, except Ekiti State. This has conferred on us the role of a gateway to other parts of the country. This informed our decision to construct the Ijebu-Ode- Epe Expressway.”
