President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick celebrated his 50th birthday on Monday, December 1.
Members of the senior national team including coach Gernot Rohr extended their love and best wishes.
Pinnick was elected president of the FA in September 2014 and re-elected in September 2018. Despite not winning any major national accolade with the Super Eagles, his reign as president has injected a significant amount of stability into the team fold.
In 2016, he appointed German tactician, Rorh as technical adviser.
Under their watch, the Nigerian national team qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and made it to the semifinals round of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Soccernet.ng said.
In recent times, their relationship has seemingly hit the rocks after a string of disappointing results, especially the draws against Sierra Leone late last month.
Still, the Franco-German coach maintains that he has enjoyed every bit of his time working with Pinnick and hope they can win the 2022 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon and FIFA World Cup together, according to Soccernet.ng
“Happy birthday, president, it’s four and half years that we are together, and I hope that when it’s your birthday in December, you didn’t sack me yet (laugh),” Rohr said in a video shared on the Super Eagles Twitter handle.
“I hope that we go further and win this Afcon and possibly the world cup together.”
Nigeria continues their Afcon qualifying series next year with games against Benin and Lesotho left to play in Group I.
A win in any of those two matches will see the three-time African champions book their spot at Cameroon 2022.
