A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, is the latest politician to react to the defection of the governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Vanguard, the former governor’s reaction was made when he spoke on Arise Television.

Obi questioned if Umahi’s defection to the APC held value for Nigerians and the economy.

He asked:

1. How many people have been pulled out of poverty by Umahi’s defection?

2. Will Nigeria exit the recession because Umahi left PDP?

3. What economic value does Umahi’s defection to APC have on the average Nigerian on the street who is struggling to put food on their table?

Obi explained that he has refrained from commenting on Umahi’s defection because the country had more pressing economic issues to solve.

The politician urged leaders in the country to focus less attention on trivial matters. He said the goal of every Nigerian should be on how to save the economy from collapsing completely

Obi said:

"We must not be distracted by political movements at this time. Anyone is free to belong to any political party. Our common focus should be saving our economy and making our governance fruitful and productive."Meanwhile, a former Senate president, Anyim Pius Anyim has alleged that his life is now in danger over his refusal to defect from the PDP to the APC.

Anyim in an open letter on Monday, November 30, accused Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state of plotting to kill him.

He notified the public, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, and the Department of State Services (DSS) over the alleged threat to his life.
