The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, yesterday said the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control had been directed to investigate the cause of the so-called strange disease that reportedly killed 50 persons in Kogi State.

He disclosed this while fielding questions from reporters after the weekly federal cabinet meeting.

The minister confirmed that the cause of the strange deaths in Enugu, Delta and two other states had been linked to yellow fever.

A lawmaker in the state, Anthony Alewo, had on Tuesday told his colleagues that a strange disease killed 50 persons within three months at Etteh village.

But the state’s Commissioner for Health, Saka Audu, on a Channels Television programme yesterday, monitored by newsmen, said the deaths were recorded in Enugu and not Etteh in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
