The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called for the arrest of military officers involved in the shooting of  #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State.

NHRC Executive Secretary, Tony Ojukwu, made the call on Wednesday in Abuja while inaugurating an independent Investigative Panel of human rights violations by the Nigerian Police

He also asked the Federal Government to compensate victims and families of those that died during the shooting.

The Commission would also deploy its staff to monitor the protests and ensure that security operatives abide by their rules of engagement.

Ojukwu’s demands come a day after security operatives opened fire at #EndSARS protesters leaving at several dead and dozens injured.

Security operatives had stormed the scene of the protest on Tuesday night hours after the Lagos Government announced a 24-hour curfew and opened fire.

Some protesters told Channels TV that they shot directly at them with an intent to kill them.

In various tweets and Instagram posts shared, many video clips capturing sounds of gunshots and people with gunshot wounds and more, the protesters expressed outrage at what transpired at the venue.

In the process, eyewitnesses said the security operatives fired live bullets at protesters there.

The witnesses said some government officials had come in the evening to unmount the CCTV cameras stationed at the toll gate plaza.

They added that while the security operatives were carrying out the shooting, the light at the scene was put out.

In some of the videos shared on social media, people clustered together as they struggled to save some of those who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.
